Dear Westwood Shores MUD Residents,
Water quality from the water wells at Water Plant 1 continues to be very poor, producing abnormally high concentration of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S). At this time, we don’t know when these elevated levels of H2S will subside. Last week the operator placed a rush order for larger treatment equipment that can treat these very high concentrations of H2S more effectively. Unfortunately, Hurricane Milton has delayed delivery. A portion of the upgraded equipment arrived this afternoon and is currently being installed. We won’t know to what extent this intermediate step will help until it has had an opportunity to run for several hours/days.
The next planned Westwood Shores MUD update is scheduled for tomorrow October 16th.
Water Plant No. 2 (“WP2”) relies on Trinity Rural Water Supply Corporation (“TRW”) for supply. TRW issued another alert today stating their water plant will be undergoing repairs through Thursday, October 17th and that the plant will be offline while the repairs are actively being worked on. Westwood Shores Water Plant 2 will continue to remain offline and unavailable as an option for Westwood until TRW has completed their repairs and is able to supply Westwood with water. A decision to switch to WP2 will be considered at that time.
Please continue to report your water quality issues to Precision Utility at 281-456-9825 or service@precisionutility.biz.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding during this difficult time.

A portion of the upgrade equipment is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday (10/15) and will be immediately installed. We still expect the issue to persist until either the wells naturally return to yielding “normal” levels of H2S or all the components of the upgraded treatment equipment are installed, which may not happen till the end of the week or possibly early next week.
Although H2S is a terrible nuisance, it does not pose a health hazard at the concentrations present in the water distribution system. The operator is continually monitoring the water in the distribution system to assure sufficient disinfectant is present to maintain compliance with TCEQ regulations for safe drinking water.
As expected under these conditions, the water in the distribution system is discolored. This happens when an abnormally high concentration of H2S are treated with a complementing amount of disinfectant. We advise holding off on washing any laundry whites with bleach until the improvements to Water Plant 1 have been fully completed and the system is flushed.
Water Plant No. 2 (“WP2”) relies on Trinity Rural Water Supply Corporation (“TRW”) for supply. TRW issued a notice on Friday stating that a high priority repair is scheduled to take place on Tuesday October 15th and therefore TRW will be unable to supply water for an unknown a period of time beginning at 8:00am on Tuesday. The alert did not specifically mention Westwood Shores as an affected customer, however, the TRW general manager did confirm that Westwood will be affected by the outage. Therefore, Water Plant 2 will continue to remain offline and unavailable as an option for Westwood until TRW has completed their repair and are able to supply Westwood with water. A decision to switch to WP2 will be considered at that time.
